Crown Inn

Hello all. Not been here for what seems like forever.

The Crown Inn in Llantwit Fadre is a strange combination of gastro pub food and traditional old pub. Sorry there are no photos I was way too busy consuming the food to even think about photographs, which is not normally like me.

Any way what's it like?

As I said when you walk in, especially from the car park you think you are walking into a village local. Pool table in it's own seperate area and a bar serving a good selection of beers and wines.

Then you walk to the end of the bar and enter the world of gastro. The restaurant looks completely different. Contemporary decor and mixed with beautiful oak tables and chairs. It really is like two different establishments in one building. Weird but it works.

Anyway on to the food. For starters sweet chilli chicken goujons. The chilli sauce gives the definite impression of being home made and packs a bit of a punch. Great flavours and a surprisingly good side salad.

Mains. Mrs T chose the 'mild' chicken curry. I'm not sure that chef understood mild but I really enjoyed it. My choice was the rump steak. Boy this fella knows how to cook. Asked for medium rare and got a perfect medium rare. Not only that but perfectly cooked hand cut chips. I know I'm easy to please but these were excellent and set off the meat very well.

Desert consisted of chocolate gateaux for me and Eton mess for Mrs T. Both were perfectly acceptable and when you consider 3 courses for £40 and drinks it was good value.

If you're looking for a very good steak go and visit.
